Election is over, the struggle continues...
The world must be aghast and appalled: the administration that brought the world unprecedented environmental destruction, Abu Ghraib and unilateral preemptive war has just been annointed by the American people for another four years. May God forgive America
Was this election was stolen? We may never know. The fact that the exit polls match the vote EXCEPT in districts that have unverified electronic voting (where Bush came out with 5% more votes than expected) looks like fraud. No way to prove it, of course.
A bit of good news in this: GWB for the first time in his life is responsible for cleaning up his own mess.
As a mother of two draft-age children, I am sick over this. Once I get through the immediate shock, I will come up with a personal plan. For now, I will finish harvesting the walnuts.

Once again, it's me Marilyn. Denise, I love you dearly and know you are upset (I'm fairly down regarding Bush winning myself) HOWEVER, I would think you must realize that exit polls mean nothing. How many of us actually get polled after voting? I watched a show today (while waiting for Kerry's speech) and they asked the 150 plus audience who had been polled EVER let alone this time. One person...ONE.
Let's face it, it may suck BUT Bush won. Kerry said today..."feel disappointed" but to "work towards closing the divide in America". You might want to listen to what he says.
I really hope you are doing okay...you sound really depressed. Support the local small business owner, grow your own food, whatever makes you feel better but please realize...the best thing to do is to start working now to make this a better place to live instead of fighting the government.
Just my opinion.
Thanks for your kind words, Marilyn. I have been doing all I can for what I feel strongly about: namely Earth and Justice. Today, my government does not reflect my values, so it is my patriotic duty to do all I can to offer my own forms of dissent. Yes, we definitely need healing. But that does not mean that I can abandon what I care about. Healing will require that both sides understand each others values. That won't happen when one side refuses to budge.
I have never hated others for having an alternative point of view, and in fact try my best to reach out in understanding. Today, in this Great Country of ours, I find that I am hated for being simply who I am. My own president drove this division deep into the heart of my fellow citizens using hate as a divisive tactical weapon. I feel terribly betrayed by what has happened in this campaign, but I will get over it. I will not remain silent in the face of injustice, however.
At times when that which we find most dear is threatened, if we do not speak up, we travel a dark path indeed.
